Selangor Journal: MBPJ offers tax rebates to homes with green solutions

SHAH ALAM, April 18 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has once again launched its assessment tax rebate campaign for homeowners who adopt environmentally-friendly and sustainable solutions at home.

Dubbed the assessment tax rebate for eco-friendly house campaign, the scheme is extended to homeowners who have taken proactive steps to make their homes more green and environmentally friendly.

These include improvements towards energy efficiency, water conservation, biodiversity enhancement, waste management, and transportation.

Eligible homeowners, such as those living on individual properties and not having any tax arrears with the council, could receive a tax rebate of up to RM500.

Interested homeowners can visit MBPJ’s official website and download the form for the details of the criteria set by the council,

MBPJ also stresses that homeowners applying for the scheme must agree to show copies of the required documents submitted during visits by the council or a member of the appointed experts for verification purposes, if necessary,

The closing date for all applications for the year is June 24.

The scheme was first launched in July 2011, after MBPJ adopted the Low Carbon Cities Framework in December 2010 to guide its transformation into a Low-Carbon Green City.

The tax rebate programme is one of the many initiatives related to the framework, and MBPJ was the first Asian local authority to implement such a scheme.

In November 2013, the scheme received the Green Apple Award from The Green Organisation London.
