Selangor Journal: MB: Wage hike shows government appreciates civil servants

SHAH ALAM, May 1 — The salary increase announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today demonstrates the government’s appreciation towards civil servants, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He expressed hope that the good news will be an inspiration for all government office bearers to redouble their efforts in serving the public.

“The prime minister’s announcement regarding a salary increase of more than 13 per cent for civil servants starting in December is the highest in history.

“This shows the Madani government’s dedication and recognition of the contributions of civil servants. We hope it will serve as a motivation for them to increase productivity and performance,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Earlier, Anwar announced that public servants will enjoy a salary hike of more than 13 per cent starting December this year, among the highest increases in the nation’s history.

He said the increase would involve an allocation of over RM10 billion.

The prime minister added that under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) being revised, the government will ensure that the minimum income for civil servants exceeds RM2,000 per month.

On a similar matter, Amirudin extended his Labour Day greetings to all workers in Selangor.

“You are the hero and heart of the state of Selangor. A state that is the focal point of the country’s economy and industrial development will only be successful if it has potent and committed workers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported the Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia (Cuepacs) as saying that the salary increase announcement is a clear appreciation to almost 1.6 million civil servants who have put the country on a firm footing.

Its president, Datuk Adnan Mat, said Anwar Ibrahim has also taken a bold step in expediting the implementation of the revised SSPA.

“The increase, expected to be over 13 per cent, will provide relief to all civil servants at all levels because it will increase their disposable net pay.

“No reason for the government not to continue with welfare-based initiatives for civil servants after the various services they have provided to the people and country,” he said in a statement today.

In addition, Adnan also urged civil servants to continue working with the government in providing the best service to the people and economy, as well as carrying out their duties with full trust and responsibility.

“Improve yourselves with the necessary skills to ensure the public service is always relevant to the current needs of the people and the economic sector. A high level of commitment by civil servants in providing services will have a positive impact on the country,” he said.
