Selangor Journal: State govt allocates RM1 mln to independent living centre for OKU youth

SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — Selangor government has allocated RM1 million to ensure the success of the Independent Living Support Centre (ILSC) programme for persons with disabilities (OKU) under Anak Istimewa Selangor (AnIS).

Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) general manager Gan Pei Nei said the programme is aimed at creating job opportunities for OKU youth.

“Registration for the programme is now open and application can be made at the link https://www.anisselangor.com/sediakerja. Only those who are eligible will be called for an interview session.

“Applicants must be aged between 17 and 22, with special education needs who can manage themselves; can read, write and count. Also, their parents and guardians must be registered voters in Selangor,” said Gan during a press conference on ILSC at De Palma Hotel here today.

She said the courses offered are sewing, baking, office management, digital technology and artificial intelligence.

“The participants will enrol in one week of orientation. Those who are successful will continue to study in the skills course between three to six months depending on the courses they took.

On August 16, the Selangor government announced its intention to establish the Independent Living Support Centre (ILSC), a skills training centre for disabled children (OKU) aged 18 and above who face learning difficulties, in all state districts.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and family Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said they are working with the Selangor Social Welfare Department (JKM) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to identify the locations to establish the centres.
