Selangor Journal: Reopening plans of tourist, historical sites in Selangor on the cards

PETALING JAYA, Aug 22 — The Selangor government is mulling the reopening of several tourist and historical sites in the state to the public once the movement restrictions have eased.

State executive councillor for culture and heritage Borhan Aman Shah said the plans in place are part of the efforts to restart the tourism sector which had been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We will also be planning several community programmes after the relaxation of the movement control order (MCO), such as ‘wau’ kite-flying and ‘gasing’ (whipping top) competitions.

“For now, we have held virtual events and activities such as the Senandung Aidilfitri programme, Rentak Selangor as well as the Hadiah Sastera Selangor award, which received an overwhelming response,” he said, when met at the Tropicana Gardens Mall vaccination centre under the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), here yesterday.

On March 1, the state administration had hosted the virtual Rentak Selangor programme which had featured 10 cultural performances.

The one-hour online event, aired from the Warisan Hall Studio Sijangkang in Kuala Langat, showcased performances of the ‘pooja’ dance, musical show using Arabian stringed lute or ‘gambus’ and ‘cempuleng’, and the ‘tarian kuda’ traditional horse dance.

The platform had provided performers with a chance to perform during the MCO.
