PUCHONG, June 29 — Local authorities in Selangor are allowed to order morning and night market traders in the state to cease their operations if they fail to comply with the standard operating procedure (SPO), which includes the wearing of the protective face masks.

Selangor state executive councillor Ng Sze Han said wearing the face masks is stipulated in the by-laws under the local government laws on to curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection.

“The SOPs for the markets is constantly updated and improved by the local authorities. If things become difficult to control or the guidelines are not observed, then the local authorities will take action.

“The local authorities will investigate the matter and the traders can be asked to close down. We hope it would not have to lead to this (the closure), which is why everyone must comply with the SOP,” he said after visiting the Bukit Wawasan hiking spot here, yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ng had reminded the people of Selangor to practice the four basic rules when shopping at the shops or markets, which include:

  • Queue up and observe the social distancing rule at all times
  • Opt for cashless payment methods, such as the e-wallet
  • Speed up the shopping process and prepare a shopping list
  • Scan the SELangkah (Langkah Masuk Dengan Selamat) QR code for Covid-19 contact tracing process
