Visit To ITE College West

Following my engagements with investors and industry leaders, I visited ITE College West, one of the three colleges under the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore’s premier technical and vocational education institution under the Ministry of Education.

The visit began with a presentation by the college leadership, followed by a guided tour of the campus and its learning facilities. ITE College West is home to more than 8,000 full-time students and offers programmes across four key schools: Business & Services, Electronics & Info-Comm Technology, Engineering, and Hospitality. Its focus as a “College of Service and Innovation” reflects Singapore’s strong commitment towards producing industry-ready talent equipped with practical skills and real-world experience.

What stood out most was the close integration between education and industry. Students are trained in facilities that closely mirror actual workplace environments, including advanced engineering, automation and robotics, hospitality, and digital technology laboratories. More importantly, ITE has developed strong industry partnerships that allow companies to participate directly in training and curriculum development, ensuring graduates possess skills that are immediately relevant to the workforce.

This industry-driven model presents valuable lessons for Selangor. Through closer collaboration between training institutions and industry players, students gain practical exposure and clearer employment pathways, while companies benefit from a steady pipeline of skilled talent tailored to their needs. It is a win-win approach that strengthens both workforce readiness and industry competitiveness.

As Selangor continues to position itself as a hub for semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and the digital economy, talent development remains a critical priority. I believe there is significant potential for collaboration and knowledge exchange between ITE and the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC), particularly in strengthening industry-led TVET programmes, curriculum development, talent certification and workforce training.

I look forward to exploring opportunities for cooperation between STDC and ITE that can further enhance Selangor’s TVET ecosystem and support the development of a highly skilled workforce for the industries of tomorrow.
