Selangor Journal: Newly-formed council will address Indian community issues in Selangor — Klang MP

SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — The newly established Selangor Indian Consultative Council (SICC) will help to address issues faced by the Indian community in the state, said Klang MP Charles Santiago.

He also welcomed Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari’s announcement yesterday on the appointment of nine members to the council.

“The group represents a cross-section of the community comprising academics, planners, NGOs, business community leaders, former senior government servants, educators and grassroots leaders.

“All elected representatives in Selangor, including MPs and state assemblymen, will be appointed in an ex-officio position in the council,” Santiago said in a Facebook post today.

He said the idea of the SICC was mooted by participants at a seminar entitled: ‘Establishing A Indian Development Narrative’ last month.

Santiago added the Menteri Besar will chair the council which will advise him on issues related to the Indian community.

Yesterday, after officiating the Piala Muhibbah Klang 2022 Kavadi competition in Klang, Amirudin told the media the establishment of SICC is important for the state government to receive feedback on its governance of the community.

He said SICC provides an alternative means or a second avenue for the community to channel their hopes and views to the state administration.

The list of nine appointed professionals in the SICC is as below:

1. Manoharan Mottain, Malaysia Venture Capital Management (Mavcap) director and
former chief economist of Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad

2. Nivas Ragavan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) president

3. Datuk Yogeswaran, former deputy director of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU)
