Selangor Journal: MB urges public to reach out for help from Selangor’s support hotline

SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — Mental health issues have become increasingly worrying due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the enforced movement restrictions in the country, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said the state government has taken the initiative to ensure that those who are struggling mentally and are in need of support would receive the help that they need from the Selangor Counselling Centre via its ‘Talian Sahabat’ (PKS-TS).

“Through PKS-TS, we offer counselling services to those in need. Let’s together spread the message so that it would benefit more people in Selangor,” he said on a Facebook post today.

On July 5, PKS-TS chairman Mohamad Zahri Samingon had said that the helpline had received many calls from those who sought help or counselling services for depression due to loss of income during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said a total of 2,528 counselling sessions have been conducted by the centre from early 2019 until June this year, including 409 issues related to mental health.

He said in March and April this year, 145 face-to-face sessions were held while 420 were carried out online. Out of the total, 203 had involved mental illnesses.

For further inquiries or counselling appointments on PKS-TS, contact 03-55190500 or Whatsapp 013-3009291.
