Selangor Journal: MB receives courtesy call from Japanese foundation delegation, discuss bilateral cooperation

SHAH ALAM, March 26 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari received a courtesy call from The Nippon Foundation chairman Tan Sri Yohei Sasakawa at his official residence, here today.

Sasakawa and his delegation met the Menteri Besar for almost an hour to discuss the potential bilateral cooperation between the state and Japan involving various fields.

“It is possible to establish various partnerships between Japan and Selangor that are not only investment-focused but also geared towards human resource development initiative and leadership in the state and the country.

“The Nippon Foundation from Japan is an organisation that provides funding for a variety of activities and social programmes, particularly in Japan and abroad,” said Amirudin when met.

Commenting further, he said that the collaboration could include a leadership exchange programme where the leaders would take into consideration various similar issues faced by the two parties, especially in the area of an ageing society, immigrants or foreign workers and social change.

“These could be common issues that may differ (in the approaches of the countries) and a leadership exchange programme is suitable to get the views of both parties (based on their respective experiences).

“For example, in terms of management of foreign workers here in Malaysia, they find that Malaysia is more advanced compared to Japan while in terms of ageing society, they appear to have a lot more active programme as a result of having dealt with the problem earlier.

“So that’s what it means to hold a leadership exchange programme to share expertise and an understanding of current needs and concerns that we must address immediately,” he added.
