Selangor Journal: Commonwealth Games gold medalist M. Thinaah recieves special contribution from Sentosa

KLANG, Aug 11 — Badminton player and gold medalist M. Thinaah was presented with a special donation from the Sentosa community service centre for her accomplishments in the recent 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, the United Kingdom.

The fiscal incentive was presented by state assemblyman Dr G Gunarajah at her residence in Bandar Bukit Tinggi earlier this afternoon.

He said the contribution is a gesture of appreciation and to celebrate the success of Sentosa’s natives in bringing fame to Malaysia on the world stage.

“We take pride in a person of Selangor, who is also a native of Sentosa, winning gold in the Commonwealth Games. This sets an example for other youths to strive in bringing glory to the country’s name.

“On the state constituency level, we strongly encourage youths at school to be active in sports. Parental support is also crucial in producing future talented athletes,” Dr Gunarajah told SelangorKini.

When asked if the state government also provided incentives to Thinaah, the assemblyman he would personally bring up the matter with Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“I am certain the state government will have good tidings to be delivered by the Menteri Besar himself or through the state executive councillor for sports (Mohd Khairuddin Othman) later,” Dr Gunarajah said.

Thinaah and partner Pearly Tan jointly contributed the gold medal after defeating the home team in the final round of the women’s doubles badminton event at the Games.

The world number 11 pair beat British players Chloe Birch and Lauren Smith 21 – 5, 21 – 8 in under 30 minutes.
