Grand Launch of The Largest Bookstore in Southeast Asia
I was deeply honoured to have joined fellow book lovers two nights ago at the midnight launch of The Library by BookXcess at Sunway Square, now the largest 24-hour bookstore in Southeast Asia, spanning 38,000 square feet across two remarkable storeys.
At the stroke of midnight, the people of Selangor chose to open not a place of entertainment, but a home for knowledge, imagination and lifelong learning. It reflected the kind of future we aspire to build one that values economic growth alongside the cultivation of thinking, empathetic citizens.
The opening of a 24-hour bookstore marked more than a commercial milestone. It strengthens our night-time economy, provides a safe and positive space for young people, and sends a powerful message that curiosity and learning should never be limited by time.
In line with our vision of making Selangor a true reading state, I was pleased to announce that the State Government will be providing RM200 book vouchers to 10,000 students next year, doubling the reach of this initiative. Alongside our investments in STEM, digital skills and TVET, we remain deeply committed to the humanities, literature and critical thinking.
Standing there at midnight, surrounded by books, was a reminder that every great society is built not only by concrete and steel, but by the minds and values of its people. That night, Selangor took another meaningful step forward in that journey.
I encourage everyone to experience The Library by BookXcess whether to read, study, exchange ideas, or simply enjoy the calm and inspiring atmosphere it offers, day or night. May this space grow into a meaningful gathering point for learners, creators and thinkers, and continue nurturing a deeper love for books and knowledge in Selangor.
Happy reading, peeps!
